Happy Holidays!

The holidays are almost here! Nest is looking very festive these days, and we have our first doggy bed in the store now!  We will be offering three sizes and lots of different fabrics, and you can also zip off the cover and wash it (key).. We will also be happy to do custom dog beds with your fabric, or help you pick something out.

We will be hosting a Holiday Open House on Friday, December 7 from 5-7, so please stop in for some holiday cheer and see the many great gifts we have.

Works in progress

20121107-193550.jpg

We are busy putting together some great looking pillows and other goodies for the store in Lakeville, as well as the three trunk shows we are doing next week! First, we are in Bedford, NY on Wednesday, November 14 at the Parish House, then off to Rye, where we do a two-day show at Apawamis Club, the 16th and 17th. Believe it or not, we will then do an evening show on Saturday the 17th in Millbrook, NY!

I love doing the trunk show/vendor fairs. No matter how the last one went, we are always filled with optimism and excitement for the next one, and of course, we love to introduce new people to the things we love!

If you are in the area of any of these events, please stop by and see us!

My view of pink has changed

As Breast Cancer Awareness month approaches its end, I have a lot to be thankful for. In February of 2011, I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer and, after enduring the battery of tests required and waiting for answers, had a double mastectomy, followed by chemo, radiation and reconstruction, which I am hopeful is it for me. Writing that year and a half’s worth of medical and personal experiences in one sentence doesn’t come close to describing all the ups and downs, and above all’ the incredible support and love I was, and continue to be enveloped by. My mother was the loving rock anyone going through something this scary and unexpected could ever hope for. My family has been there for me every step of the way. My friends are an incredible group of people, for whom I am thankful daily! The people at Yale Smilow Cancer Hospital were, and continue to be, amazing.

I could go on and on about this today, but I have some other things I wanted to share. My younger daughter, Annie, is 15 today! Happy Birthday, my love. We are riding out Hurricane Sandy in New York. No trips to the design showrooms today..

Instead, I thought I would post some pictures of pink decorating that I like. And.. As always, if you are in the Lakeville, Ct area, please stop by Nest at our new location, open Fridays and Saturday’s 10-5, 11 Brook Street, Lakeville, CT. We are going to be participating in some fun holiday trunk show/vendor airs in November and will keep you posted!

Thanks for reading, and if you are the “Sandy Area”, stay safe!

Ellen

Clutter

I am, of the three partners in our business, by far the least able to control clutter. If it drives my two business partners crazy, they do not let on.

I love little decorative doodads and always think I could use another one, but then I frequently feel overwhelmed when I walk in the room (particularly my kitchen).

There is a fine line between cluttered/cozy and downright messy. I think the following get it just right.

What do you think?

Puppy Love!

Meet the newest member of the Nest team, Lisa’s  adorablerescuer dog.  So docile, perfect doggy for our store! (My Westie, maybe not so much)

Having a dog in the store made us all realize how much we like dogs in decorating.  We love foo dogs in particular, especially if you can find them in great colors.  Also love the way staffordshire or staffordshire style dogs look in an interior, either a very traditional English style interior, or mixed in with other styles.

We plan to be introducing some new doggy related items soon, so stay tuned! They’re going to be really good..

 Have a great day!

What a week!

I have to say, Nest has been so busy since we opened our new space in Lakeville.  Last week we spent two days at a great trunk show/vendor fair in Rye and the Shenorock Shore Club.  This fair is organized by Pam Scott, who does an amazing job picking a wonderful mix of vendors.  There was something for everyone there.  Of course, I had to toodle around and do a little shopping of my own…

We were really happy with all the great feedback from the shoppers and vendors, and are looking forward to doing more of these fun, hard working road trips!

Please don’t forget to come visit us at our new space in Lakeville, CT if you are in the area.  The address is 11 Brook Street, on the same sidestreet as the new firehouse.  Also, our etsy site will be growing, so please check out what we have on a regular basis.  The shop name on etsy is nestmillerton.

Thanks for joining us!

Ellen, Mary and Lisa

Fabulous Rattan Chairs Before and After

Lisa found these fabulous vintage rattan chairs and transformed them to become Nest worthy. On a beautiful March day she sanded, scraped, and painted them a glorious coral color. Then she recovered the cushions in a brown and white Quadrille fabric. Come visit us at Nest and see them for yourself. You won’t be able to resist!!!
